SALT HARBOUR STUDIOS & ARTIST RETREAT

Salt Harbour Studios is an artist retreat on Salt Harbour Island in Herring Neck, Newfoundland. The peaceful quietness of the rugged Newfoundland landscape and the sense of community pull me back here every year to work in my studios. It is such an amazing place to experience that I have decided to share my retreat with other artists, writers and musicians.

Salt Harbour Studios consists of my house that overlooks the water and three outside buildings, all of which act as creative spaces in varying degrees of capacity.

Where Is Serenity

Buildings

  • The House:

is a three-bedroom bungalow that sits on the shore of Salt Harbour. The kitchen is spacious enough to allow for a sitting area to take in the awesome view of the harbour. The kitchen is fully equipped including a microwave and a dishwasher. The living room offers a large sitting area with satellite television, a variety of books (a collection about Newfoundland and its history) and wireless Internet. The master bedroom, with a queen size bed, offers a view of the harbour and includes a quiet sitting area and a private workspace. The second bedroom is a comfortable room with a queen size bed at the front of the house. The third bedroom has two twin-size beds. In all, the house will comfortably sleep six people. Off the kitchen there is a deck that gets sun all day long and overlooks the harbour. There are laundry facilities in the house. All linens are provided.

  • The Raven:

The main studio building is an authentic boat stage that sits right over the water. With the three doors open it has the feeling of a gazebo. The old, weathered wood of the interior, the sound of the water and the ocean breezes make it a relaxing and inspiring space for artists, writers and musicians.

  • The Fox:

This is a two-story building that provides a creative space for those who might require a workbench. During the resettlement of some of the fishing villages in Newfoundland (1950s) this building and The Raven studio were brought across the water from Ship Island.
